The award winner's dissertation, published by transcript Verlag, was supervised by Britta Klagge at the University of Bonn. It is an excellent piece of scientific work. The candidate explores public libraries and their limited scope of action under the conditions of digitization and austerity. Further, she analyzes how related municipal strategies affect educational equity.
Katja Thiele studied human geography and sociology at the University of Potsdam and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. She then worked as a research assistant at the University of Bonn and completed her dissertation in a research project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
